Positive Comments

I commented on Mehrsa's Blog about her slide show. I kept my comment nice and simple and also being positive at the same time. The owner would see it and she would be proud with the work she produced.

Week 1 Term 3 Commonwealth Games

Commonwealth Games

My Prior Knowledge of the Commonwealth Games
I know that the Commonwealth Games are held in Glasgow. The starting date of the Commonwealth Games is the 24th of July ending on August the 4th. The Commonwealth Games are similar to the Olympics but the Commonwealth Games do not include every nation instead only include the countries that go under the authority of the British Queen. The Commonwealth Games include heaps of sports such as Shot Put, Netball, Swimming, Bicycling, Athletics and many more. The nations compete against each other representing their country to receive an achievement such as a  gold, silver and bronze medal to put around their neck.

The Commonwealth games have a special opening where there will be lots of dancing and singers singing to celebrate the opening of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. There will be one special person that will be holding the flag to represent their country and he/she would also be called the flag-bearer.

My New Knowledge of the Commonwealth Games
The 2014 Commonwealth Games are held in Glasgow this year and the New Zealand team was the first to arrive. In the Commonwealth Games there is a limit of 17 sports being played. The Commonwealth Games started in Hamilton, Canada in 1930. From 1930-1950 this tournament was known as the British Empire Games, then from 1954 to 1966 it was named The British Empire Commonwealth Games. It is estimated that the number of the athletes attending this year’s Commonwealth Games is over 4000.There are only six teams which have always  attended the Commonwealth Games and they included Australia, England, Scotland and Wales.
The Commonwealth Games are held every four years starting from 1930 but they didn’t have it in 1946 because World War II was on. This year for the New Zealand team Valerie Adams is expected to be the flag-bearer. This year will be the XX Commonwealth Games.

Evaluation
Through my time of learning about the Commonwealth Games I have learned a lot more than before. Since we had our net-books we have been producing more work than usual. This year New Zealand is going to come home with the most medals! All this time I never really knew what the Commonwealth Games were about, but now I know because we have been chatting, and helping each other, and getting help from our teacher.

Hey, My name is Senila. I'm a year 8 student at Ruapotaka School and aged 12. My favourite type of sports to watch is Netball, NRL, Rugby Union and Rugby League. I enjoy playing netball in the position GD, meaning Goal Defence. The Club I play for is Lorenz Netball Club. My favourite NRL teams are Cowboys,Titans,Bulldogs and the Vodafone Warriors. My favourite Artist is Beyonce. She inspires me because she has two jobs. Being a mother and performing on live stages travelling the world to show what she can do. I come from a very small family. I have two young brothers aged 10 and 1 years old. Starting from today I just want to make my parents proud of me because it always makes me happy when my dad has a big smile on his face. My cultures are Tongan, Samoan and Tokelauan. When I'm older I would like to succeed something that makes my parents happy before I will never get to see them again.
